Actions are being planned around the country to mark significant events:

July 16 is the commemoration of the Trinity Test in New Mexico—the first atomic bomb ever detonated created the first victims, those who lived downwind from the test.

August 6, 2023 will mark the 78th year since the city of Hiroshima was destroyed by the Little Boy bomb dropped by the United States. Still today, survivors of the bombing, hibakusha, are calling for the world not only to remember Hiroshima, but to take action to make sure there is never another bomb dropped — specifically, they call on nuclear weapons states to join the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and begin the journey to disarmament.

August 9, 2023 will mark the 78th year since the city of Nagasaki, Japan, was destroyed by the Fat Man bomb, dropped by the United States. Each year Nagasaki, like Hiroshima, marks the anniversary with a ceremony that calls for the abolition of nuclear weapons.

November 27, 2023 — the Second Meeting of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons will open at the United Nations in New York City. States and civil society organizations will continue the process of fleshing out the specifics of the Ban Treaty, will hear reports from the intersessional working groups that have been busy since the First Meeting of States Parties last summer, and will work to adopt a statement and workplan for the future.

January 22, 2024 — Banuary 22 should be declared a global holiday by nuclear abolitionists. Actions will take place across the US and around the world celebrating the entry into force of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons—the Ban Treaty.

The Nuclear Ban Treaty Collaborative has developed a variety of resources to help you elevate the Ban Treaty, amplify the voices of people from affected communities, and call for the United States to take immediate steps to join the Treaty. There are banner templates, signs, fact sheets, posters and much more on the Resources page — please browse through them and see what you can use to educate people about the Treaty and to organize your own action.
